Chess clubs in Mainz 3
Notes on this list
Mainz lies across the Rhine in Rhineland-Palatinate, and its clubs play in that state's leagues. Schachfreunde Mainz 1928 hold their playing evening on Fridays in the Theodor-Heuss-Grundschule in Hechtsheim and train young beginners on Saturday afternoons; on the first Saturday of the month their Schachschobbe in the Golden Ross Kaserne is open to guests. Their first team plays in the Rhineland-Palatinate league.
The chess department of Vorwärts Orient Mainz meets on Friday evenings in the Haus der Jugend, trains children and juniors on Mondays and Fridays and runs an open club championship. TSG 1846 Bretzenheim plays on Tuesdays in the stage hall of its club house, children and juniors first and adults from eight, and has brought chess to pupils of the Bretzenheim primary school during their holiday programme.
